Tour de Hongrie - Siófok

Year after year, Tour de Hongrie offers a real challenge to competitors, and many unforgettable memories to the entire cyclist community. All along the route, there are plenty of opportunities for fans to cheer on the cyclists and keep up to date on the latest developments while the competitors ride through picturesque landscape and start and finish towns.

As always, Lake Balaton provides an unparalleled backdrop for the competition. The final stage starts in Siófok, so if you are an avid sports fan there is no reason not to cheer on your favourites while enjoying a pleasant break by Lake Balaton. There are also plenty of excellent auxiliary events to attend in Siófok.

If you want to get even more involved in one of the most prominent cycling events of the year, you can do so by volunteering. The entire town is at full steam preparing for the stage start from Siófok, and applications for prospective volunteers are now open until 30 April 2024.

The Tour de Hongrie

The Tour de Hongrie is a prestigious Hungarian cycling competition with a proud and long history. Over the course of five stages, it covers around 854 kilometres, with an elevation differential of 8,000 metres, 10 graded inclines, two classic sprinters’ stages as well as two iconic mountain stage finishes to delight participants.

This year will mark the 45th time the Hungarian Bicycle Circuit Race, widely known as the Tour de Hongrie, will be held. The current racing line-up includes 120 competitors representing 20 teams.

The cyclists will cross 81 towns and villages, nine of which are designated start or finish points. The route also includes 12 sprint stages.

Siófok is far from being new to the race, as 2024 will be the 19th year that the pack will cross the town.

Our sunny town of Siófok, situated by Lake Balaton, will host the fifth, i.e. the final stage start.

The cyclists will set off at 12:10pm on 12 May 2024 from Fő Square, which will also be hosting a range of auxiliary events and a true festival of cycling.

This ring-fenced dog beach is the only one of its kind in Zamárdi. It provides a great environment for furry swimmers and their owners who want to have a dip in the lake together.

Walks in Siófok

Nearby dog-friendly hiking trails provide another great opportunity for spending some quality time together with your pet. Get out there and explore the most picturesque spots around Lake Balaton. A walk in Siófok is another great option to let your dog burn off some of their seemingly infinite energy, and there are loads of attractions and parks for you to discover on the way.

Make sure to schedule a quick stop at the bottom of the Water Tower because this is where you can find the local Tourinform office and get up-to-date information on current dog-friendly activities. Parched four-legged explorers will also receive a bowl of refreshing water.

Campsite rules and safety

Please familiarise yourself with the campsite rules on arrival, and make sure to observe them to help ensure all guess can enjoy their rest undisturbed. The campsite rules serve the safety and comfort of all as well as the wellbeing of your four-legged friend.

Before leaving home, make sure to pack all the essentials for your dog, which may include some toys, a comfortable bed and whatever you need at feeding time. Don’t leave the muzzle and the leash at home, either! Please remember that dogs must be kept on a leash at the campsite at all times.

Make sure to bring the dog’s vaccination log, as this is a prerequisite of allowing your pet into the campsite.
